Straight Talk from Buddha Logic: Doing Our Best to Banish Buzzwords

02-10-2016

The other day I was proactively leveraging a disruptive innovation when suddenly I witnessed a holistic sea change toward a new normal, which caused me to streamline my exit strategy. Yes, if you’re in business, you probably know someone who talks like that, and that sentence made you grin. Unless, of course, you are the someone who talks like that! (Check out the hilarious video linked to at the end of this post.)

While buzzwords have their place, using too many of them too often can inhibit clear communication. It also tends to erode your credibility with people who would like to see a paradigm shift back to straight talk. That’s why our focus here at Buddha Logic is on communicating clearly and concisely, without a lot of jargon and buzzwords. And that’s not always easy. The fields we work in—enterprise resource planning, document management software, business process automation—have their share of obscure acronyms and and tech-speak. But whenever possible, we talk about:

  • Making it easier to capture information from incoming forms rather than “optimizing the post-receipt aggregation of text strings”
  • Helping you retrieve stored information more quickly instead of “enabling the rapid recall of archival datasets”
  • Simplifying the enforcement of file retention policies, not “executing the automated application of rule-based evaluations to unique records”

So if you ever catch anyone on the Buddha Logic team abusing any of the most common buzzwords in the list below (thanks, Wikipedia), feel free to shame them with a vigorous eye roll.
